MTB Atlanta Pro Trails, the professional trail building arm of MTB Atlanta, broke ground on a new trail build on September 16th, 2021 at the brand new Campbellton Creek Nature Park off of Plummer Road in the City of South Fulton.
In 2019, MTB Atlanta donated a trail and park concept plan to the Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land at a value of $7,500 to flesh out a vision to develop the 80 acre park which had been a conservation tract that was leased to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources for hunting.
The plan for the park consists of about 5 miles of shared use trails for mountain biking, hiking and trail running. Phase One will consist of a .75 mile Beginner rated “Nature Trail” Loop and a 2 mile “Intermediate Trail.”
There is a possibility to build a pump track and skills area at the park as well as some bike optimized flow trails in future phases depending on fundraising.
” MTB Atlanta Pro Trails is excited to get after Phase one at Campbellton Creek Nature Park. The volunteer response we have had from the community has been awesome. MTB Atlanta had over 50 folks come out on our National Trails Day event last June to kick off our work at the park and over 20 volunteers on our September 11th Trail Build day. This is our third active project in 2021 with our new land manager the Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land and we believe our partnership is setting the Trust up for success at Campbellton Creek by using our planning, trail construction and volunteer mobilization expertise to activate a previously underutilized conservation tract into a full fledged park for passive outdoor recreation and an incredibe community asset. This project also fits squarely into our ‘ Ride 20’ initiative, a mission to bring more trails close to home by providing recreational trails for passive outdoor recreation within a 20 minute drive of every Metro Atlantan where possible,” says Brett Davidson, Executive Director of MTB Atlanta.
The new park has benefitted greatly from the support of District 1 City Councilwoman Dr. Catherine Foster Rowell who has been a champion of the project. Dr. Rowell organized and attended the volunteer events and led volunteers in the field.
Phase One trail construction is being funded by the Southeastern Trust and construction should be completed by late November 2021.
