Join us as we celebrate National Public Lands Day with a day of instruction and stewardship at the Outdoor Activity Center. We have partnered with Park Pride to host a Sustainable Trails Workshop to teach best practices of trail design, construction, and maintenance for Friends Groups working in City of Atlanta and Dekalb County Parks.
Part lecture, part workday, come on out and learn about trails!
You do not have to be a member of a Park Pride Friends Group to attend.
Led by veteran trail builder and educator Walt Bready, the Sustainable Trails Workshop will teach attendees about natural surface trail care, covering the best practices for building, maintaining, and improving recreational trails for non-motorized use. The goal is better sustainability that can reduce overall maintenance needs and user impacts on our natural resources.
Attendees will begin the workshop inside listening to a presentation about sustainable trails and then move outside for the hands on trail maintenance portion of the workshop. Best practices will be reinforced through physically working on existing trails at the Outdoor Activity Center.
Attendees should bring a reusable water bottle and be dressed appropriately to work outside on the trail. Closed toe shoes and pants are required. Gloves and tools will be provided by Park Pride.
Cost for class is $5.
