3 Trail Work Days MLK Weekend- 83 Volunteers- 336 Total Hours= $9,589.44 Impact !!
We started 2022 with a bang this MLK JR weekend by hosting three trail work days on Saturday January 15th with eighty three volunteers. These work days totaled 336 volunteer hours which at the state volunteer hourly labor rate of $28.54 made a $9,589.44 impact for trail maintenance, new trail construction and public lands in Metro Atlanta.
Despite frigid temps, more than 25 awesome volunteers showed up to give back to Allatoona Creek Park moving a lot of mud and a lot of rock to get Turtleback armored and looking great. Special thanks goes to Joey Hearilston of Cobb County Parks – Natural Resource Management for all the help with the heavy lifting. Jason Awtrey supplied everyone with great swag from Muc-Off and Floyd’s of Leadville. AND Dawn Camp filled our bellies with her world famous chili.
Over 30 volunteers showed up to our monthly trail day at Sope Creek and braved the cold to give back to the trails and did a ton of seasonal drain work and winter clean up to get the trails dialed for Winter.
And lastly we had an incredible day of service to honor the life of Dr. King by hosting a volunteer day on our new trail and park build with the Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land and City of South Fulton – Georgia. Over 25 awesome community members came out to volunteer. We worked on building a new fence and plantings to beautify the park and accomplished a ton of finishing work out on the new trail which is under construction. Special thanks to the good folks at Walker Run Outdoor Events & Excursions for showing up.We are amazed at the level of excitement the community has for this new park in the City of South Fulton. These folks are energized and our MTB Atlanta Pro Trails crew is on the move to get this new trail and park open by March!
Thanks to all who came out to volunteer at Allatoona Creek Park, Sope Creek and Campbellton Creek this past Saturday and for our crew leaders and land managers for running the show. We look forward to more of this in the coming year!! Join in on any of our work days, socials, and group ride by giving our calendar a follow over on our Events tab here at mtbatlanta.com.
